SMOKE EVACUATION TESTING AND CERTIFICATION

The use of fan systems to create pressure differentials to move fire generated smoke in a desired manner dates back to 1971 when this was proposed by the Federal General Services Administration.  The flow of smoke away from the fire area can be impeded and smoke can be removed from a building in a controlled manner by means of the air supply and exhaust systems.  This is done by controlling pressure differentials around fire zones.
